Les was born in Springfield, IL. His father was a Lutheran pastor who, at that time, was attending the Seminary in Springfield. Les is the second youngest and has 4 brothers and 1 sister. Since his father was a pastor, Les lived in Nebraska, Illinois and Wyoming growing up.  His mother and most of his family currently live in Thermopolis, WY. He graduated from Concordia, Seward in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and accepted his first call to Concordia, Cerritos, where he served from 1984 to 1993. It was there that he met his wife Lisa (Dettmer) whom he married in 1993. He served at St. John’s, Orange from 1993 to 2001 where he taught 7th and 8th grade. He is currently teaching 7th & 8th grade Science, one 8th grade Math class, one PE class and the STEM intercession class here at St. Paul’s where he has been since 2002. Les also heads the St. Paul's First Lego League team, coaches flag football and in his spare time, referees high school basketball. Les is in his 32nd year of teaching and his 16th year at St. Paul's. He has four children:  Nate who is attending Santiago Canyon College and plans to transfer to Cal State Fullerton to get a degree in business, Rachel who is attending and playing soccer at Central Christian College in McPherson, Kansas and Jordan & Leah who are  both attending Orange Lutheran.
